Blue Jays Beaten By Wildcats In Saturday GNAC Contest

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.  The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team saw its two-game win streak snapped, as the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University (JWU) were aggressive throughout in a 5-0 conference win over the Blue Jays at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex (SMAC) Saturday afternoon. With the loss, USJ is now 2-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matches this season, and 3-7 overall.

USJ maintained its aggressive attitude that led them to a pair of victories last week, but it was not enough to keep the Wildcats from going wild, scoring two goals in each of the first two periods. JWU put up an onslaught of shots, the majority of them sent back by sophomore goalie and captain Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.), who finished with a career-high 17 saves, but in the end, USJ was unable to get a single shot off against the hosts before the final horn.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: Saint Joseph 0, Johnson & Wales 5

COACH QUOTE [Karen Nell] "Wendy Bowden really kept us in the game and played amazing today in goal, but unfortunately we just couldn't get any flow going on the field today. We will look to regroup and get back to it next week. Still a lot of field hockey to be played this season."
