Baseball Drops Non‑Conference Road Contest at WNE on Friday
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
USJ wasted no time getting on the board as senior outfielder Dom Scalia (Northford, Conn.) lined an RBI single to center field in the top of the first inning, scoring senior infielder JJ Fox (Killingworth, Conn.) to give the Blue Jays an early 1–0 lead.
-
WNE responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame, erupting for four runs to take a 4–1 advantage.
-
The Blue Jays chipped away in the top of the third when freshman infielder Sam Balducci (South Windsor, Conn.) laced an RBI single to right field, bringing home junior infielder Tyler Carlstrom (Rocky Hill, Conn.) to cut the deficit to 4–2.
-
Western New England broke the game open in the fourth inning, plating seven runs to extend its lead to 11–2.
-
Scalia recorded his second RBI of the afternoon in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly, once again scoring Carlstrom.
-
USJ added one more run in the seventh as sophomore infielder Jack Kane (West Hartford, Conn.) delivered an RBI triple to right field, but WNE held the Blue Jays in check the rest of the way to secure the victory.
