Carlstrom Named GNAC Baseball Player and Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman infielder Tyler Carlstrom (Rocky Hill, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) baseball team was named both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player and Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office Monday afternoon in its fourth weekly report of the 2024 season. It marked the first GNAC weekly honors for Carlstrom in his career, second and third for the USJ baseball team this season, and back-to-back weeks where the Blue Jays have been recognized by the conference office after sophomore Ethan Reemsnyder (Clinton, Conn.) earned the program's first-ever weekly award last Monday.

Carlstrom had a break-out week at the plate for USJ, as the Blue Jays went 1-0-1 over a pair of games, en route to being named GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week. Carlstrom hit safely, scored, and drove in at least one run in both of USJ's games this past week. The Rocky Hill product started with a 3-for-5 showing, including a triple, in a 10-10 tie with Hartford on Tuesday, March 19. He drove in three runs against the Hawks and also drew a walk. The freshman infielder followed that up with a 1-for-2 performance at the plate in a 5-2 GNAC win over Dean on Friday, March 22. Additionally, he also scored once, drove in a run, drew a walk, and stole a base against the Bulldogs. For the week, he slashed .571/.667/.857 with two runs scored and four RBI.

Through the first 14 games of the 2024 season, Carlstrom is 9-for-31 at the plate for a .290 batting average with five RBI and nine runs scored. He has drew 10 walks and two hit-by-pitches in 45 plate appearances and sports a .488 on-base percentage, which is currently third-best on the team.

Carlstrom and the Blue Jays return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 26 for a non-conference contest at home versus Worcester State University. First pitch between the Blue Jays and Lancers is set for 3:30 p.m. at the USJ Baseball Field in West Hartford, Conn.
