USJ Honors Coach Tom Walsh
The University of Saint Joseph Athletic Department honored former tennis coach Tom Walsh Saturday as part of Tailgate Day before the Blue Jays match with Mount Ida.
USJ Athletic Director Bill Cardarelli and Associate Athletic Director Deb Fiske presented Walsh with a plaque, which in part read: The University of Saint Joseph Athletic Department thanks you for your dedication, tireless work and enthusiastic support of all our teams for the past 21 years.

Walsh had been with the Blue Jays squad since its inception in 1994, serving as assistant coach from 1994-2001 under Fiske and the head coach the past 12 seasons before retiring this summer. He coached 12 All-Conference players at USJ, led the team to eight GNAC Tournaments as head coach and was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2003 and in 2010.
“He’s been a tremendous asset to USJ, not only to our teams, but the University as well,” Cardarelli said. “He has been an inspiration to many of the current and former tennis players, student-athletes at large and all those who have been fortunate enough to cross his path. We thank him for everything he’s done and hope he’ll continue to be one of USJs loyal fans.”
