Altenor, Ouellette Named January HHC Athletes of the Month
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Department of Athletics would like to recognize the Hartford HealthCare Athletes of the Month for the fifth full month of the season, the month of January. These student-athletes went above and beyond during a highly competitive sports slate while standing out above the rest in the respective month. The award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete across all school sports at the end of each calendar month, and is done so on behalf of USJ Athletics and Hartford HealthCare. Lence Altenor (Men's Basketball) – The junior guard from Everett, Mass., led the men's basketball team to a 7-1 record in January averaging 18.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per contest. Altenor began the month with a 22-point, five-rebound and four-assist outing in a road loss at Nazareth (1/4). The guard then dropped 11 points at New England College (1/7) before tallying 18 points, five assists and nine rebounds at home against Norwich (1/11). Altenor then matched his statline versus Anna Maria (1/15), before dropping 13 points, four rebounds and five assists against Rivier (1/18). The junior guard then matched his career-high of 24 points in a road win at Emmanuel (1/21) before scoring another 24 points, while grabbing eight rebounds against Regis (1/25). Alltenor rounded out January with 17 points and five rebounds during a home win against Mitchell (1/29). The honor marks the second consecutive time that he has been named a Hartford HealthCare Athlete of the Month and the second of his career.
Jordan Ouellette (Women's Basketball) – Ouellette, a graduate student forward from Bristol, Conn., paced the Blue Jays to a 7-1 record in January, averaging 19.4 points of 61.1 percent shooting, and 9.0 rebounds per contest. She began the month with 19 points and five rebounds in a road win at Sage College (1/3), before leading the team to victory at New England College (1/7) after posting 22 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Ouellette continued her stellar month at home against Norwich (1/11), scoring 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. The graduate student then posted back-to-back double-doubles, first tallying 22 points and 11 rebounds versus Anna Maria (1/15), and scoring 21 points and hauling in 12 rebounds against Rivier (1/18). Ouellette then posted 21 points and eight rebounds in a road loss at Emmanuel (1/21) before leading the Blue Jays to a bounce-back victory against Regis (1/25), posting 14 points and 13 rebounds to notch her third double-double of the month. Ouellette rounded out January with 20 points and eight rebounds during a home win against Mitchell (1/29). The honor marks the ninth Hartford HealthCare Athlete of the Month award in her career.
