Volleyball Swept at Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph volleyball team dropped both ends of a GNAC tri-match Saturday, losing in straight sets to Emmanuel and Norwich at the Jean Yawkey Center on the campus of Emmanuel College.

USJ dropped three sets to Rivier by scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-12 while scores against Emmanuel were more competitive at 25-23, 25-19 and 25-15. USJ ended the day 9-17 overall and 3-7 in the GNAC.


Sophomore outside hitter Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) led USJ with nine kils and five digs against Norwich. Junior libero Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic, Conn.) anchored the Blue Jays' back row with seven digs in the effort.  

Against Emmanuel, USJ fought off four set points in the opener before falling 25-23. Senior outside hitter Amanda Dondero (Mastic, N.Y.) had nine kills for the match, 12 for the day and went over 500 for her career. She joins teammate Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) who reached the milestone earlier this year. Perez had eight kills and a team-high eight digs for the Blue Jays and junior setter Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) handed out a match-high 24 assists.

Rivier (21-8, 11-0 GNAC) and Emmanuel (20-11, 10-1) finished first and second in the conference.
