WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) had 17 kills, 20 digs and four aces, but the University of Saint Joseph volleyball team lost a dramatic, two-plus hour, five-set GNAC match to Suffolk Thursday at the O'Connell Center.

Scores by set were 25-20, 22-25, 25-27, 25-18, 17-15. Suffolk improved to 10-10 overall and 1-3 in the GNAC. St. Joseph is 7-12 and 1-4.

Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) had 35 assists for USJ. Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) had seven kills and 12 digs for the Blue Jays, Amanda Dondero (Mastic, N.Y.) had six kills and Cassandra Grimaldi (Manchester, Conn.) made four blocks. Williams and Justine Walicki (Plainville, Conn.) each had 13 digs for St. Joseph.

Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) had a match-high 19 kills and 14 digs for Suffolk and Savannah Carpenter (Weston, Conn.) had 12 kills and five blocks.

Suffolk had a 14-12, fifth-set lead, but USJ fought off two match points (one on a kill from Perez) as the Blue Jays got three unanswered points to serve a match point of their own. But Suffolk got the serve back at 15-all, Carpenter served an ace and Brillaud had a kill to end the match.
