NORTHFIELD, Verm. – The University of Saint Joseph volleyball team came up on the short end of both matches Saturday in a GNAC tri-match at Norwich.
The Blue Jays lost to Lasell 3-2 after a spirited comeback and 3-0 to Norwich. USJ is 7-11 overall on the season and 1-3 in the GNAC. Lasell finished the day 9-9 overall and 2-2 in the GNAC and Norwich is 3-13 and 2-2.
Against Lasell, USJ fell behind as Lasell won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-10. The Blue Jays came back winning the next two 25-22 and 25-18 before Lasell won the deciding fifth set, 15-8.
Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) led St. Joseph with 13 kills and 19 digs. Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) had seven kills, served six aces and had 11 digs for the Blue Jays while Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic, Conn.) recorded 20 digs and Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) dished out 26 assists.
In the final match of the day, Norwich posted set scores of 26-15, 25-18, and 25-20 en route to the 3-0 win. Perez had six kills and 11 digs for USJ and Cassandra Grimaldi (Manchester, Conn.) had five kills.
