Volleyball Opens GNAC Play With Split

STANDISH, Maine – The University of Saint Joseph volleyball team split a GNAC tri-match Saturday at St. Joseph's College.

The Blue Jays opened the conference portion of their schedule with a 3-0 win over Albertus Magnus before losing 3-0 to host St. Joseph's of Maine.

At 7-8 overall, USJ has its best record after 15 matches the program has had in 13 years. Albertus finished the day 8-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference and St. Joseph's of Maine is 13-2 and 4-0.

USJ topped Albertus by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-15. Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) had 10 kills and eight digs to lead the USJ attack. Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) served six aces for St. Joseph, Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic, Conn.) had a team-high 11 digs and Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) had 19 assists.

The Blue Jays dropped three sets to St. Joseph's of Maine, 25-23, 25-15, 25-13. Perez had eight kills and Vigue had 10 digs, five kills and three aces.

St. Joseph hosts Wesleyan, Tue. Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
