Volleyball Beats Bay Path
HOLYOKE, Mass. – Junior outside hitter Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) had 15 kills and nine digs to help the University of Saint Joseph volleyball team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Bay Path Wednesday.
USJ won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-12; Bay Path took the third 25-23 before USJ clinched the match with a 27-25 fourth-set win. St. Joseph is 2-4 overall while Bay Path dropped to 1-5.
In the final set, USJ rallied from an early 8-4 deficit and a late 20-17 disadvantage. With Bay Path leading 24-22, the Blue Jays fought off two set points on a kill by Amanda Dondero (Mastic, N.Y.) and a Pay Path hitting error. With Bay Path up, 25-24, Perez had a kill to tie the score and the matched ended on the next point on a Bay Path ball handing error.
Dondero had seven kills for the Blue Jays and Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) six. Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) had 32 assists.
USJ next plays in a tri-match at Framingham State, which also includes Southern Maine, Sat. Sept. 14, beginning at 2 p.m.
