Volleyball Tops Pine Manor in Three
CHESNUT HILL, Mass. -- Rebecca DiPinto (Burlington, Conn.) had a match-high seven aces, Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) had five and Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) four as the University of Saint Joseph defeated Pine Manor 3-0 Tuesday evening in a non-conference match at Brunelli Court.
Scores by set were 25-13, 25-16, 25-10 and the Blue Jays won the match in 55 minutes. Saint Joseph improved to 7-20 overall. Pine Manor is 3-12.
The visiting Blue Jays flew out to an early lead in the first set, shutting down Pine Manor defensively while hitting at a .412 clip to take the opening set. Perez and freshman Samantha Edwon (Beacon Falls, CT) each opened the match with three kills in the first set.
Saint Joseph took a 2-0 lead following the second set as Williams (Lakeville, CT) paced the offense en route to finishing with a match-high 20 set assists. Perez continued to be dominant offensively and put down seven kills on 12 attempts in the set, including seven of her first eight, without committing an error.
The Blue Jays put the Gators away in the final set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead and never looking back. Vigue had four of her five kills in the final set to help USJ clinch the victory.
Saint Joseph travels to take on Mitchell College in New London Thursday at 7 p.m.
