Volleyball Battles Mount Holyoke to Five Sets

HOLYOKE, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches Saturday at Mount Holyoke College.

Saint Joseph dropped a 3-2 decision to Mount Holyoke and was swept in three sets against Amherst.

Saint Joseph (1-5) battled gamely, rallying from a two-set deficit against Mount Holyoke. The Blue Jays pounded 25 kills between the third and fourth sets to twice stay alive in the match, before Mount Holyoke took the fifth set.

Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) had an excellent all-around match for Saint Joseph with 13 kills, 24 digs and five aces. Ciara Perez (Manchester, Conn.) had 11 kills and 19 digs for the Blue Jays. Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic, Conn.) contributed 20 digs and Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) had 28 assists.

Perez had five kills and 13 digs against Amherst, while Vigue had 11 digs and Tuazon added 10.

Saint Joseph hosts Mitchell, Wed. Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
