Tennis Says Goodbye to Loteczka, Robinson

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision Saturday to Suffolk in a GNAC match at the USJ tennis courts.

St. Joseph finished its regular season 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the GNAC. USJ finished fifth in the GNAC standings and qualified for the GNAC Tournament for the first time in four years. The Blue Jays will play at fourth-seeded Anna Maria Wed. Oct. 23 at a time to be announced. Suffolk is 4-8 overall, but 4-2 in the conference and the Rams finished third in the GNAC.

Saturday marked the final home match for four-year senior players April Loteczka (Ellington, Conn.) and Julie Ann Robinson (Hamden, Conn.)

"On a personal level, I really will miss both of them," St. Joseph tennis coach Tom Walsh said. "They've been very loyal to the program. They are both outstanding students and despite the pressures on them academically, they made virtually every practice and match for four years. It has been my honor to coach them."

The Blue Jays lone point Saturday came from sophomore Serena Sundara (Windsor, Conn.) who dropped the first set and won the second before winning a third-set tiebreaker, 10-5.
