Tennis Defeats Western, 6-3
DANBURY, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph freshmen Rebecca Mauri (Meriden, Conn.) and Monica Palmieri (Bristol, Conn.) were double winners leading the tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Western Conn. in a non-conference match Thursday at Westside Courts.
With the win, St. Joseph improved to 6-6 overall and defeated Western (1-11) for the second time this season.
Mauri won in two sets at No. 2 singles and paired with Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) for a win at No. 2 doubles. Palmieri won in three sets at No. 6 singles and partnered with Meghan Toth (Naugatuck, Conn.) for a victory at No. 3 doubles. Emma Allen (W. Granby, Conn.) in the first spot and Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) at No. 3 also picked up straight-set singles wins for USJ.
St. Joseph completes its regular season Sat. October 19, hosting Suffolk in a GNAC match at noon. The Blue Jays will then play Wed. Oct. 23 in a GNAC tournament quarterfinal against an opponent to be determined.
