Tennis Team Wins First of Season
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph freshman Emma Allen (West Granby, Conn) won matches at No. 1 singles and doubles Wednesday as the Blue Jays tennis team defeated Mitchell 9-0 in a non-conference match for its first win of the season.
USJ is 1-2 overall; Mitchell is 0-1.
Allen won a long, 6-4, 6-3 match over Mitchell's No. 1 player, Carly Paterson and teamed with Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Wawrzynowski also picked up a win at No. 3 singles. Former Platt High School teammates, junior Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) and Rebecca Mauri (Meriden, Conn.) were both double-winners. They partnered to win at No. 2 doubles with Mauri winning at No. 2 and Chenard at No. 4.
Serena Sundara (Windsor, Conn.) and April Loteczka (Ellington, Conn.) also earned singles wins for USJ while Amanda Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.) and Monica Palmieri (Bristol, Conn.) picked up a doubles win.
USJ hosts Western New England, Sat. Sept. 14 at noon.
