USJ Tennis Team edged by WesCon, 5-4

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph tennis team dropped a razor-thin 5-4 decision Thursday to Western Conn. in a non-conference match at Saint Joseph.

Saint Joseph had a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition as Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) and Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) won at No. 2 doubles for the Blue Jays and Lindsay Tracy (Manchester, Conn.) and Delina Andrews (Thomaston, Conn.) won at No. 3.

But the Colonials earned wins in four of six singles matches to win the match. Chenard earned a straight-set singles win at No. 4 for USJ as did Serena Sundara (Windsor, Conn.) at No. 6.

Saint Joseph is 1-4 overall on the season. Western improved to 1-1. Saint Joseph hosts Johnson & Wales, Sat. Sept. 22 at noon as part of Tailgate Day.
