Another Triple-Double for Hyde in Victory

Another Triple-Double for Hyde in Victory

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – University of Saint Joseph junior Mary Hyde (Derby, Conn.) recorded her second consecutive triple-double, scoring 24 points, collecting 10 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists to lead the visiting Blue Jays to an 81-65 victory over Pine Manor College women's basketball Sunday afternoon at Pine Manor.

With the win, Saint Joseph improves to 12-7 overall while Pine Manor drops to 8-10.

Against Emerson Saturday, Hyde had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 72-66 loss. Sunday, Hyde became the first player in USJ history to record back-to-back triple-doubles and two of any kind. The feat had only been accomplished three times before Saturday, the last by Nathalie Mastarreno, Nov. 22, 2008 when she had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an 82-73 win over Mitchell.

Hyde was one of five Blue Jays to finish in double-figures in scoring. Sophomore Claire Consonni (Bristol, Conn.) added 12 points off the bench for USJ, while classmates Brianna Ferraro (Waterbury, Conn.) and Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) added 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Junior Shauna Sullivan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished with 11 points. As a team, USJ shot 47.1 percent from the field for the game while collecting 23 assists.

Pine Manor freshman Alexis Lee (Akron, OH) earned team-high honors for the Gators, scoring 19 points on 6-13 shooting.

USJ opened the game on a 13-3 run, trailing only when Lee put the Gators up 2-0 in the opening minute. Following Pine Manor's early basket, the Blue Jays held the lead for the remainder of the first half and the game. However, the Gators continued to hang around in the early going, eventually cutting the early USJ lead down to just four points with 3:01 remaining in the first, at 31-27.

Hyde and Lynch would each score on back-to-back possessions, before a pair of USJ three-pointers on either side of two free-throws from Lee would send the visitors into the break with a 39-31 advantage.

In the second half, USJ quickly worked to separate itself from the Gators, increasing its lead to 15 points at 13:37 when Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, CT) knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 60-45 in favor of the Blue Jays. The USJ lead would swell to as many as 20 points in the second half as the Blue Jays continued to shoot over 45 percent from the field.
