Basketball Beaten at Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team knocked off the University of St. Joseph, 69-55 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game Thursday night at the Wildcat Center.

Junior Mary Hyde (Derby, Conn.) led the way for St. Joseph with 18 points and eight rebounds and junior Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) added 15 points. Johnson & Wales was led by Natalie DiCocco (Media, Pa.) and Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), who scored 18 points apiece.

Johnson & Wales improved to 5-9 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC while St. Joseph is now 8-4 overall and 1-2 in league play. 

The Blue Jays led just once, for 13 seconds, at 5-4 on a three-pointer from Hyde as the Wildcats controlled the action early in the first half and took a commanding 43-22 lead into halftime. JWU shot 51.5% from the field while the Blue Jays had 15 turnovers and shot 25.9% (7-27) from the field.

St. Joseph halved its halftime deficit to get within 10 points twice, but that came in the final 66 seconds and Johnson & Wales hung on for the victory.

St. Joseph hosts Simmons Sat. Jan. 19 in a GNAC game at 1 p.m.
