WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's cross country team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Runner of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league's front office.
Tompkins picked up right where she left off from the 2017 cross country season and led the Blue Jays at the Trinity College Bantam XC Invitational on Saturday. The veteran paced USJ and posted a ninth-place finish out of 63 runners with a finishing 5K time of 20:31.3 on an average 6:37 mile pace. It marks the second GNAC Women's Runner of the Week award for Tompkins in her career and second consecutive season she earns the nod after competing at the Trinity Invitational.
The USJ men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action next on Saturday, September 15th at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The men's race is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m. while the women will begin at approximately 12:00 p.m.
