GNAC Announces Preseason Cross Country Poll

WINTHROP, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's cross country team was picked to finish ninth, while the men were selected to finish tenth in the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll which was announced Tuesday afternoon by the league's front office. The annual poll's results are determined amongst a vote by the conference's head coaches. Stephen Allen is entering his second season with USJ as the women's head coach while beginning his first stint on the men's side this season. The Blue Jays will open their 2018 season on Saturday, September 8th at the Trinity Invitational. The women's race is slated to begin at 10:30 am with the men to follow at 11:15 a.m. 




Norwich University swept the top spot on the 2018 GNAC Cross Country Preseason Polls with the Cadets women receiving seven of a possible 12 first-place votes for 135 points, while the Norwich men were named the unanimous favorite after receiving all 11 first-place votes and 121 poll points. The Cadets have won the GNAC Championship each of the last three years on the men's side and the Norwich women's program has won it each of the last two and three of the last four overall.

In the women's poll, Simmons College took home five first-place votes and 133 points to finish just behind Norwich. Regis (Mass.) was third with 105 points, followed by Emmanuel College with 102 points and newest league member Colby-Sawyer College with 94 points. 

On the men's side, Emmanuel finished second with 96 points, followed by Regis (Mass.) with 92 points, SJC with 84 points and Colby-Sawyer with 83 points to round out the top-five. For the complete poll results, please see below.

This year, Saint Joseph's College of Maine will host the 2018 GNAC Cross Country Championships on campus in Standish, Maine on Saturday, October 27. The women's race will get underway at 1:00 p.m. with the men's race to follow at approximately 2:00 p.m.
