CHICOPEE, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph cross country team recorded a sixth place finish at the 2017 Blazer Classic Invitational hosted by Elms College at Chicopee Memorial State Park in Chicopee, Mass. on Saturday afternoon. The 6K race featured 64 runners and nine teams.
Junior Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) continued her strong start to the 2017 season and led the way for the Blue Jays at the meet. She posted her best finish of the season so far turning in a top-five finish and crossing the finish line fourth overall with a time of 25:12 on a 6:46 mile pace.
Sophomore Kristina Petit (Plainville, Conn.) was the next USJ runner to complete the course, turning in a 22nd place finish. She crossed the timeline with a mark of 28:18. Senior Mary Anderson (Granby, Conn.) followed closely behind Petit, finishing 24th overall with a time of 28.18.
Seniors Jessica Jordan (Wallingford, Conn.) and Paulina Koloda (Jaroslaw, Poland) rounded out the field for the Blue Jays. Jordan recorded a 48th place finish with a time of 34:45, while Koloda posted a 50th place result with a time of 36:48.
The Blue Jays totaled 128 points as a team to earn the sixth place finish. Salve Regina won the meet placing its top-five scoring runners all inside the top-15 and finished with 27 total points. Hampshire (64), Western New England (69), Johnson & Wales (110) and host team Elms (124) rounded out the top-5 teams. USJ finished sixth ahead of Mitchell (204), Mount Ida (217) and Dean (251).
The USJ cross country team will be back in action next in a week when they host its annual meet with the Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
