WINTHROP, Mass. - Junior Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph cross country team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Corvias Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It marks the first time this season that Tompkins has earned the honor.
Tompkins continued her strong start to the 2017 cross country season and led the way for the Blue Jays at the Trinity College Bantum Cross Country Invitational this past Saturday. She posted her second consecutive 14th place overall finish, crossing the finish line first for USJ with a time of 21:27.0 on a 6:55 pace. The race featured 100 runners fielded by 11 different teams.
Tompkins and the USJ cross country team will be back in action next in a week when they head to the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to get under way at 11:15 a.m.
