WATERFORD, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph junior Kaneen Gomez-Hixson (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished 92nd in a field of 390 runners as the University of Saint Joseph cross-country team concluded its season in the prestigious NCAA New England Region Meet at Harkness Memorial State Park.
Gomez-Hixson ran the 6K course in 23 minutes, 34.2 seconds. She won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Meet on Oct. 31, earning conference Runner of the Year honors. Saturday, she finished ahead of the other 40 runners from GNAC schools. Margaret McCaffrey, of Lasell, the GNAC runner-up to Gomez-Hixson two weeks ago, was the second conference finisher Saturday in 137th overall in 24:14.1.
Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) finished in the top half of the field for USJ, clocking a 24:58.8, which was 192nd. Mary Anderson (Granby, Conn.) and Alyssa Vereneau (Newington, Conn.) also competed for the Blue Jays, finishing ahead of 94 and 67 runners, respectively. In all, runners from 60 schools competed.
Maryann Gong, of MIT, was the individual winner in 21:36.3 and Williams won the team championship.
