Dejshona George
Title: Head Coach

Dejshona George enters her ninth season as the head women's volleyball coach at the University of Saint Joseph in 2019.

George was an assistant coach to former USJ head coach Val Briggs for the previous three seasons. She was also an assistant basketball coach for two years. George currently serves as a coach for CT Velocity Volleyball Club in East Hampton.

Prior to joining the USJ coaching staff, George was the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Watkinson High School in Hartford, Conn. for three seasons.

George has received her IMPACT certification and CAPI Certification from the USA Volleyball organization.

George sparked a turn-around season in her first year, as USJ improved from a two-win season in 2010 to eight victories in 2011. USJ matched its eight wins the following season despite the loss of three key players, and improved to nine victories in 2013. 2014 saw a major improvement, as the Blue Jays went 16-7 and qualified for the GNAC Tournament for the first time in seven years. The 16 wins were the most victories in a season for the program in more than a decade.

George received the prestigious Woman in Sport Award in 2013, presented annually to a former USJ student-athlete who has continued to be a role model for young girls and women through sports. She is a 2005 graduate of Saint Joseph, where she played both volleyball and basketball. She earned an undergraduate degree in Business Management and a Master’s Degree in 2007 in Business Management Strategies.

As a player, George was named Most Valuable Player on the volleyball team for the 2003 season and Most Improved Player in 2001.

“I take a lot of pride to coach on the same floor on which I played,” George said. “I guess I’m a life-long Blue Jay. I look into the girls’ eyes and I see myself at that age...and they’re looking at me the same way I looked out at who was in the place I am now.”

A native of Bronx, N.Y., George attended Miss Porter’s School in Farmington. She works in finance at Pratt & Whitney and resides in Hartford.
