WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph tennis team was stopped by the Nichols College Bison on the USJ Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon, 9-0. The sweep drops the Blue Jays record to 2-5 overall on the season, while Nichols improves to 9-3. USJ will look to regain form when they return to action next on Saturday, Oct. 1 on the road at GNAC foe Anna Maria.
The Bison took all three doubles matches to begin play on Thursday, 8-0, 8-2, and 8-5. Freshman Domonique Carnot (Meriden, CT/Maloney) and junior Tara Smith (Palmer, MA/Palmer) put up the best fight for USJ at No. 3 singles as they were edged 8-5 by Emma Carey (Venice, FL/Venice) and Kristina Domantas (Holden, MA/St. Peter Marion).
In singles action, sophomore Leah Nguyen (West Hartford, CT/Conard) posed the toughest threat to Nichols at No. 6 singles, but eventually dropped her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Sakinah Abdulsalam (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) also had a tough match falling 6-2, 6-2.
The USJ tennis team will try and bounce back when they head to Anna Maria on Saturday, Oct. 1 for a 12 p.m. GNAC match.
