Weir Shatters Varsity Record, Blue Jays Fall On Senior Night

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team came up just short on senior night in a dual meet with Westfield State University (WSU), 157-122, inside the Bruyette Natatorium Friday evening.

Freshman Alexia Weir (Hebron, Conn) once again stood out above the rest breaking the varsity and freshman records in the 100-yard backstroke. She also trimmed down her freshman 100 individual medley (IM) record with a second-place swim (1:05.74). Weir won three events overall, as did co-captain and sophomore Alise Martel (Harwinton, Conn.). Senior co-captain Leah Verrillo (Cheshire, Conn.) and senior Taylor Houghtaling (East Hartford, Conn.) swam their hearts out in their final home meet in a Blue Jay swimsuit.

Saint Joseph returns to the pool on Tuesday, January 21, in a dual meet at Eastern Connecticut State. The action kicks off at 6:00 p.m.
