WESTON, Mass. — 11 members of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming & diving team were named to the 2018-19 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Fall All-Academic Team. It was announced by the NEISDA on Wednesday afternoon. 165 student-athletes (138 women, 27 men) from 22 women's teams and 16 men's teams across the region were recognized on this year's NEISDA Fall All-Academic Team.
In order for a swimmer or diver to make the team, they needed to post a fall semester GPA of 3.50 or higher. Three seniors, one junior, two sophomores and five freshman earned the honor for the Blue Jays: senior Gabriella Alberino (East Haven, Conn.), freshman Brielle Bergeron (Easthampton, Mass.), freshman Shelby Cios (Rocky Hill, Conn.), freshman Meghan Curtis (Bristol, Conn.), freshman Sarah Maglio (Bristol, Conn.), sophomore Alise Martel (Harwinton, Mass.), senior Annmarie Masayda (Watertown, Conn.), senior Elizabeth Sears (Bristol, Conn.), freshman Mackenzie Stotler (New Hartford, Conn.), sophomore Amanda Thiel (Torrington, Conn.) and junior Leah Verrillo (Cheshire, Conn.). 11 of 15 team members accomplished the feat, and USJ as a team holds a 3.53 GPA.
NEISDA is a coach-run swimming and diving association with 22 Division III schools in New England. The association has been around for nearly 100 years.
