DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph swimming & diving team competed in an unscored meet at the Louise Goodrum Invitational on Saturday hosted by UMass Dartmouth inside the Trip Athletic Center Natatorium. The Blue Jays posted six top-10 finishes at the meet and were led by sophomore Veronika Latawiec (Newington, CT) who was associated with five.
Lataweic and the Blue Jays opened up the meet with a top-10 result in the 200 yard medley relay. Lataweic was the lead swimmer of a team that included sophomores Annmarie Masayda (Watertown, CT) and Gabriella Alberino (East Haven, CT) and senior Lillian McKenzie (Rocky Hill, CT). The team posted a time of 2:08.37 for the result.
Individually, Lataweic followed with three top-10 marks. The Newington product recorded her best performance in the 100 yard backstroke where she finished on the podium and swam to a third place finish with a time of 1:07.66. She also finished eighth in the 200 yard backstroke (2:32.54) and ninth in the 200 yard IM (2:34.10).
Masayda also posted an individual top-10 finish on the afternoon in the 50 yard breaststroke for the Blue Jays. The sophomore turned in a season-best time for a ninth place result in the event touching the wall with a time of 36.03.
USJ then wrapped up the meet with a ninth place finish as a team in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Freshman Taylor Houghtaling (East Hartford, CT) joined Alberino, Latawiec and Masayda on the team and combined to finish with a time of 1:56.22.
The USJ swimming & diving team will return to action next when they host Western Connecticut in a dual meet inside Bruyette Natatorium on Friday, November 18 at 6 p.m.
