NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College women's soccer team shut out the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Field in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt. Lasell improves to 8-4 with its fourth straight win and 8-1 against league opponents, while Saint Joseph falls to 8-4-1 and 6-3 against league opponents.
The Lasers dominated the shots column overall, 24-6, igniting the offensive charge in the 26th minute by Sophia DiPlacido (Hudson, Mass.). DiPacido collected a loose ball in the six-yard box, and placed it far post for the 1-0 advantage.
10 minutes later, Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) scored her third goal in as many games, as she flew by a USJ defender to put Lasell up 2-0. Both teams were held scoreless until the 70th minute of regulation, when DiPlacido scored her second of the game on an unassisted bid.
Lasell's keeper, Sarah LaClair, stopped all three shots faced on net, and improves to 8-4 with the win. The senior also recorded her 22nd career shutout. Sophomore Megan Ricci (Center Moriches, N.Y.) took the loss in the cage for the Blue Jays, making a season-high 12 saves.
Saint Joseph will play its last regular season road game on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Albertus Magnus at 4:30 p.m. Lasell hops out of conference action on Monday, Oct. 16 for the first time since September 11, as they head to Roger Williams University for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
