BRADENTON, Fla. – The University of Saint Joseph lacrosse team opened its season with a 14-2 loss to Curry College Friday at G.T. Bray Park.
The game was played as part of the team's Spring Training trip to Bradenton. Curry, which has already played five games, is 4-1 on the season.
Rose St. Hilaire (West Hartford, Conn.) scored both goals for the Blue Jays. Curry scored the first 10 goals of the game before St. Hilaire broke the run with her first collegiate goal with 2:43 to play in the half to make it 10-1 at intermission. She added her second 11:32 into the second half to make the score 11-2 at the time. Hannah Lemek (Bristol, Conn.) earned three draw controls and forced three turnovers for St. Joseph.
Curry outshot USJ 33-8 and had a 26-11 advantage in ground balls. Goalkeeper Emily Bourassa (Bristol, Conn.) made 16 saves for the Blue Jays.
USJ next plays at Bay Path, Wed. March 23 at 4 p.m. USJ hosts Daniel Webster in its home opener Thur. March 24 at 4 p.m.
