Lacrosse Wins 4th Game; Tops Elms, 16-5
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Eliza Doane (Suffield, Conn.) scored five goals and eight different USJ players found the back of the net as the University of St. Joseph lacrosse team defeated Elms 16-5 Monday at home.
St. Joseph improved to 4-9 overall; Elms is 5-8. The four wins for St. Joseph tied a single-season school record for wins in a season, set in 2011.
Doane finished with five goals and an assist and Rachel Foster (Newington, Conn.) scored three times for USJ. Erika Leitao (Southington, Conn.) had two goals and two assists and extended her season total to a record 13 assists. Haley Tufano (Farmington, Conn.) also scored twice for USJ.
Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) scored three times for Elms and Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) had two goals. USJ scored the first eight goals and led 13-2 at halftime. Elms played down two players in the game.
Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.) had a goal and an assist for the Blue Jays. Justine Mojsa (Newington, Conn.), Kaci Seibert (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and Kelly Pickett (Farmingdale, N.J) scored one goal apiece for USJ.
"I'm happy for this group that they got to four wins," USJ coach Jim Herrera said. "Some of the work they've done all season is starting to pay dividends."
St. Joseph concludes its season Sat. April 27 when it hosts the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 1 p.m.
