WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Silvana Barcomb (Middletown, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week honors, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference front office. It marks the first GNAC Rookie of the Week nod for Barcomb in her career and the first for the Blue Jays in the 2018-19 basketball season.
Barcomb registered a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 (63.6%) shooting from the floor in just 22 minutes of action off the bench to lead the Blue Jays in their lone game of the week, a tough 73-62 setback to Northern Vermont University-Lyndon where the Hornets pulled away late. The 5-4 rookie from Middletown was perfect (3-3) from the field until halfway through the third quarter and helped keep the Blue Jays within striking distance of the Hornets with 10 second-half points. She was also 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Barcomb currently ranks third on the Blue Jays averaging 8.2 points per game and is USJ's best shooter at 40.4% on the season.
The University of Saint Joseph will start its longest road trip of the season as conference play officially kicks off—six games, first at Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday, January 8. Tip-off between the Blue Jays and Chargers is slated for 5:30 p.m.
