WESTFIELD, Mass. – Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) scored a game-high 18 points, but the University of Saint Joseph basketball team dropped a 61-46 game to Colby-Sawyer in the consolation game of the Westfield State Holiday Tournament on Sunday at the Woodward Center.
Colby-Sawyer improved to 6-4 overall on the season; USJ is winless in 10 games. Westfield State defeated Wellesley 80-61 in the championship game.
Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass.) led Colby-Sawyer with 11 points and a game-high 17 rebounds and Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored 10 for the Chargers. Colby-Sawyer outrebounded USJ 58-45 and had a 36-16 advantage in points in the paint. Colby-Sawyer led 14-6 after the first quarter and 34-17 at the half.
The Blue Jays received 10 points and eight rebounds from Rajeen Mayo (Middletown, Conn.) and eight points and nine rebounds from Kayla Guest (Newington, Conn.) Elisha Pertillar (Windsor, Conn.) chipped in with seven rebounds.
USJ is back in action, Tuesday, Jan. 5, hosting Elms College at 7 p.m.
