WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Senior forward Erin Brooks (Billerica, Mass.) had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team to an 83-39 non-conference victory over the University of Saint Joseph Tuesday evening at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.
Eastern, ranked No. 23 nationally, improved to 4-1 overall. USJ is 0-7.
Rajeen Mayo (Middletown, Conn.) scored a team-high 13 points for the Blue Jays, Carlee Putnam (Niantic, Conn.) scored nine and Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) eight. Elisha Pertillar (Windsor, Conn.) had a team-high nine rebounds.
Eastern limited USJ to 26.8 percent shooting from the floor (15-for-56) and turned 23 offensive rebounds into 24 points. Jill Ritrosky (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Julia DePoi (Brookfield, Conn.) scored 14 points each for Eastern which shot 32-for-75 (42.7 percent) from the floor. The Warriors led 17-11 after one quarter and 40-22 at halftime.
USJ next plays at Connecticut College, Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.
