WINTHROP, Mass. - Sophomore Alessandra Milardo (Plantsville, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) softball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon. It marks the first GNAC Pitcher of the Week award for Milardo in her career.
Milardo, a right-handed hurler from Plantsville, picked up her first win of the 2019 season inside the circle in dominating fashion on Sunday in game two versus Bay Path in USJ's lone doubleheader of the week. Milardo fired a complete game, two-hitter and struck out seven Wildcats over five innings of work as the Blue Jays defeated Bay Path 9-0 to even their record to 7-7 on the year. The Saint Paul product didn't allow a Bay Path batter to get past second base in the victory, facing just six batters over the minimum and firing 57 strikes in 99 pitches.
The USJ softball team will be back in action next on Wednesday, March 27 when they host non-conference opponent Sarah Lawrence College for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one between the Blue Jays and Gryphons is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the CCSU Softball Field.
