Softball Wins Pair of Thrillers Over Emmanuel Saturday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Freshman Michelle Woodruff (Southington, Conn.) slapped a pinch-hit, two-out, two-RBI walk-off single to centerfield with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun the visiting Emmanuel College Saints, 4-3, in the second game of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at USJ. The Blue Jays plated three runs with a huge two-out rally in their last at-bat to complete the comeback and sweep Emmanuel after blanking the Saints in the opener, 1-0, where sophomore hurler Amaria Sharon (Tolland, Conn.) tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout with five strikeouts. With the sweep, USJ improves to 8-6 overall on the season and starts 2-0 in GNAC play while Emmanuel slips to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the league.
