Hummel Breaks Career Hit Record

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – University of Saint Joseph senior Emily Hummel (Hebron, Conn.) became the all-time hit leader at the school Friday night as the Blue Jays split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader against Albertus Magnus at West Haven High School.

Albertus won the opening game 4-3 before Saint Joseph took the nightcap, 3-2. It was the fourth doubleheader in nine days for the Blue Jays who came back to win the late game after dropping the first all four times. Saint Joseph is 12-8 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC. Albertus is 10-12 overall and 3-7 in the league.

Hummel had the first of her two hits in the first game in the fifth inning. Her single up the middle was No. 146 of her career and allowed her to pass Mary Ann Parsons who had 145 from 1999-2001.

USJ freshman Patti Sciglimpaglia (Norwalk, Conn.) earned her sixth victory of the season in the second game. She allowed three hits, no walks, two unearned runs and stuck out eight. Jocelyn Grady (Meriden, Conn.) Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, Conn.) and Ashley Gall (Stafford Springs, Conn.) all had two hits for USJ. Hummel had an RBI-single and finished the night with career 148 hits.

St. Joseph hosts Mount Ida Sat. April 6 in a GNAC doubleheader beginning at noon.
