WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman David Kavanaugh (West Hartford, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's cross country team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the conference front office. It marks the third time Kavanaugh has garnered GNAC Rookie of the Week honors this season and he is the only repeat winner of this award on the GNAC circuit.
Kavanaugh led the Blue Jays accross the finish line with a 46th place finish out of 206 runners this past Saturday at the 24th Annual James Earley Invitational held at Stanley Park and hosted by Westfield State. The rookie sensation crossed the 8K finish line in 27:43.27 and toured the course on a 5:34.6 mile pace. The West Hartford and Conard High School product was the highest finishing freshman runner of all the GNAC schools competing at the James Earley Invitational and he was the fifth-highest finishing GNAC runner overall. Kavanaugh has led the men's cross country team across the line in every event so far this season.
The regular season has come to an end for the USJ men's and women's cross country teams. It is now on to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships on Saturday, November 2. The action is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
