Flock Of Four Swimmers Named To NEISDA Fall All-Academic Team

WESTON, Mass. — Four members of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming & diving team were named to the 2019-20 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Fall All-Academic Team, announced by the association Tuesday afternoon. 193 student-athletes (149 women, 44 men) from 21 women's teams and 15 men's teams across the region were recognized on this year's NEISDA Fall All-Academic Team.

COACH QUOTE [Brenda Straker]
"Our motto is to work hard in the pool, and harder in the books. This is only a temporary stop in life. What they do in the pool reflects what they do in the classroom, and I think it helps them become more responsible down the road. I am very proud."

In order for a swimmer or diver to make the team, they needed to post a fall semester GPA of 3.50 or higher.

One sophomore and three freshmen earned the honor for the Blue Jays: Freshmen Aaron Gauvin (Berlin, Conn.), David Kavanaugh (West Hartford, Conn.), and Zachary Nielsen (Berlin, Conn.), as well as sophomore Jacob Wyse (Broad Brook, Conn.).

Four of six team members accomplished the feat. It was the first-ever fall all-academic honor in the history of the men's swimming program.

NEISDA is a coach-run swimming and diving association with 21 Division III schools in New England. The association has been around for nearly 100 years.

Saint Joseph returns to the pool on Tuesday, January 21, in a dual meet at Eastern Connecticut State. The action kicks off at 6:00 p.m.
