BOSTON, Mass.— The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team finished their first ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship meet with a hard-fought sixth-place finish, inside the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Jacob Wyse (Broad Brook, Conn.) stole the show for the Blue Jays, winning in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:05.40, half a second in front. Wyse also finished second in the 400 IM, third in the 200 Freestyle, and fourth in the 100 Butterfly, good for four top-four finishes. He scored 27 points.
Freshman Matt Gorman (Columbia, Conn.) did his part with a solid fourth-place swim in the 100 Breaststroke to pick up five points. Freshman Will Witkoski (Middlebury, Conn.) chipped in with fourth place finishes as well in both the 50 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle.
The Norwich University men's team won the GNAC title for the second consecutive year, after the inaugural championship meet last season. The Cadets had won six GNAC Invitationals before the league gained the minimum number of members to sponsor a conference championship on the men's side.
