WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman Jacob Wyse (Broad Brook, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference's front office on Monday afternoon. It marks the first GNAC weekly honor earned in USJ men's swimming and diving program history.
Wyse helped power USJ to a pair of victories this past Friday afternoon when the Blue Jays hosted Western Connecticut and Elms in a double dual meet inside Bruyette Natatorium. The Broad Brook product was a victor in all four events that he competed in. He started the meet swimming the backstroke leg on USJ's winning 200-yard medley realy team with a split time of 27.25. Wyse then followed by winning three individual events, touching the wall first in the 100-yard butterly with a season-best time of 27.25, 200-yard backstroke (2:10.79), and 100-yard IM with a personal-best time of 59.33.
His effort helped the Blue Jays secure two wins in the double dual meet as they topped Western Connecticut 110-95 and Elms 106-97.
The USJ men's and women's swimming and diving team's will return back to the pool next on Saturday, December 1st when they travel to Wesleyan for the Connecticut Cup beginning at 10:00 a.m.
