Mary Sciglimpaglia Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

University of Saint Joseph freshman Mary Sciglimpaglia (Norwalk, Conn.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the period ending April 21, it was announced Monday.

Sciglimpaglia batted .520 (13-for-25) on the week with nine RBI as the Blue Jays finished the regular season 9-1 and set a school record for wins in a season (30). She had five doubles, a triple, a homer and had a .920 slugging percentage. From her catcher position, she threw out four of eight runners trying to steal and had a pickoff. Sciglimpaglia had a stretch from April 16-19 where she had hits in nine consecutive official at bats. 

Mary joins twin sister Patti as award recipients this season as Patti was named GNAC Rookie of the Week, April 8.

USJ will host a first-round GNAC Tournament game, Wed. April 24 against an opponent and at a time to be determined.
