Torres, Hummel Named All GNAC
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Saint Joseph College senior Kristina Torres (Groton, Conn.) and junior Emily Hummel (Hebron, Conn.) were named to the All-GNAC softball team, the league announced Sunday.
Torres was named Second Team at pitcher while Hummel was chosen Third Team at outfield and utility.
Torres had an 11-13 record, but an outstanding 1.55 ERA. She had a single-season school record 155 strikeouts in 153 innings. She finished with a career ERA of 1.76, also a school record.
Hummel batted a team-best .344 and also led the team with 10 doubles and 20 RBI. She had a 7-9 pitching record with a 3.18 ERA and struck out 99 batters in 108 innings.
Saint Joseph finished 20-23. After finishing eighth during the regular season in the GNAC standings, the Blue Jays were one of the last four teams remaining in the league tournament.
Torres and Ashley Gall (Stafford Springs, Conn.) were named to the GNAC All-Tournament team. Torres went 3-1 in the tournament and allowed four earned runs in four complete games, struck out 21 and walked four. Gall batted .429 (6-for-14) in five games with a home runs and four runs scored.
Saint Joseph College junior Stephanie Valerio (Wolcott, Conn.) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.
