USJ Athletes of the Week (9/11/18)

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - This week's USJ Athletes of the Week honors have been awarded to freshman runner Eric Knox (Bristol, Conn.) of the men's cross country team and senior runner Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) of the women's cross country team, announced by usjbluejays.com Tuesday afternoon. Stay tuned, as each Monday a new set of Blue Jays will be honored for their respective performances in his/her sport.

Eric Knox | Fr. | Runner | Bristol, Conn.

The second installment of the USJ Men's Athlete of the Week is awarded to freshman Eric Knox (Bristol, Conn.) from Men's Cross Country. Knox placed 32nd out of 60 runners finishing the 5K race with a time of 19:29.1 to set the new men's 5K school standard in the inaugural men's cross country meet at the Trinity College Bantam XC Invitational on Saturday held at Wickham Park.

The USJ men's cross country team will compete Saturday, September 15th at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational beginning at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Mia Tompkins | Sr. | Runner | Meriden, Conn. 

The second installment of the USJ Women's Athlete of the Week goes to senior Mia Tompkins (Meriden, Conn.) from Women's Cross Country. Tompkins picked up right where she left off from the 2017 cross country season and led the Blue Jays at the Trinity College Bantam XC Invitational on Saturday at Wickham Park. The veteran paced USJ and posted a ninth-place finish out of 63 runners with a finishing 5K time of 20:31.3 on an average 6:37 mile pace. She also picked up her second career GNAC Women's Runner of the Week honor as announced by the league's front office on Monday afternoon.

The USJ women's cross country team returns back to action next on Saturday, September 15th at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational beginning at approximately 12:00 p.m.
